Foster® Vapor-Out™ Coating 30-33

1 of 92 products in this brand
Foster® Vapor-Out™ Coating 30-33 is a water-based vapor retarder coating designed for insulation, suitable for interior and exterior applications. It is particularly useful for low-temperature and some dual-temperature scenarios, including chilled water and refrigerated pipelines, HVAC ducts, and low-temperature equipment. This coating dries quickly, creating a resilient, flexible, and dry film that safeguards insulated surfaces and hinders vapor flow through the insulation system.

Product Type: Coating, Waterborne Coating

Features: Fast Drying, Fire-Resistant, Flexible, Good Toughness, UV Resistant, Water-based

Compatible Substrates & Surfaces: Fiberglass, Phenolic Foam, Polystyrene (PS) Foam, Polyurethane (PU) Foam

Ready-to-Use Product Features
Product Highlights
  • VAPOR-OUT™ COATING 30-33 can be used on most types of thermal insulations in both cold and dual temperature service.
  • It is used to vapor seal the seams, overlaps and punctures from pins and staples in FSK, ASJ, white paper and polyester vapor retarder facings on insulation boards, duct wrap and pipe covering.
  • It may also be used to seal cut ends of insulation to prevent moisture ingress and fiber release.
  • It is compatible with fiberglass, mineral fiber, cellular glass, polyisocyanurate, polyurethane, polystyrene, phenolic, rubber foam and other insulations.
  • VAPOR-OUT™ COATING 30-33 features easy application by trowel or brush.
  • It may be applied with MAST-A-FAB® or CHIL- GLAS® #10 Glass Fiber Reinforcing Mesh to increase film strength.
  • See reverse side of product data sheet for application information.
  • Advantages
    • Water-based for personal and environmental safety
    • Fast-drying formula enables maximum production rates
    • Non-flammable – safe for transport, storage and usage
    • Quick and efficient cleanup of tools and metal with warm water before coating completely dries
    • Outdoor rated and UV resistant
  • VAPOR-OUT™ COATING 30-33 meets the requirements of:
    • California Dept. of Public Health Standard Method v1.2
    • VOC Emissions and Content requirements to contribute to LEED v4 EQ Credit: Low Emitting Materials – Paints and Coatings
    • Collaborative for High Performance Schools EQ 7.1
    • Meets NFPA Standard 90A and 90B 25/50 requirements as a closure mastic

Applications & Uses

Application Method
Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Limitations
  • Store and apply between 40°F (4°C) and 100°F (38°C), protect from freezing until dry.
  • To resist rain wash-off, allow at least 16 hours drying time above 50°F (10°C), with a relative humidity of 50%.
  • Higher humidity and/or lower temperature may retard drying.
  • Always test foil and paper facings for acceptable adhesion before using.
  • Outdoor horizontal surfaces must always drain completely.
  • A pitch of at least 1/2” per foot (4 cm/m) is required.
Preparation and Application Information

Material Preparation

  • Stir well, Do not thin.
  • Apply only to clean, dry, oil-free surfaces.
  • Keep container closed when not in use.

Application – Indoor and Light Duty Outdoor

  • To prevent water vapor and moisture infiltration, proper and complete flashing is required.
  • Follow flashing specifications. To seal seams, overlaps, punctures, penetrations and terminations of vapor retarder membrane jacketing:
    1. Apply tack coat of Foster® VAPOR-OUT™ Coating at 2 gallons per 100 square feet (0.8 l/m2 ).
    2. Where desired, embed Foster® MAST-A-FAB® White Membrane into the wet tack coat. Smooth membrane to avoid wrinkles and overlap all seams at least two inches (5 cm).
    3. Apply finish coat of VAPOR-OUT™ Coating, within 1/2 hour of the tack coat application, at 2 gallons per 100 square feet (0.8 l/m2 ).
    4. This application shall provide a dry film thickness of 35 mils (0.9 mm).
    5. Do not use with canvas or other closed weave cloth as a reinforcing membrane since the coating cannot properly penetrate the cloth.

Brush

  • Use a good brush (suitable for water-based paints), making strokes as long as possible over the surface.
  • Apply with full brush and spread out evenly.
  • Do not overwork.
Cleaning Information
  • Use fresh water for cleaning brushes and equipment before product dries.
  • Dry product may be removed with hot soapy water (with ammonia added) or strong solvents such as chlorinated solvent (non-flammable) or xylol (flammable).
