Advantages
  • Sets up quickly to help maximize production rates.
  • Creates a tenacious seal over all holes, gaps and joints of metal ductwork to provide a long service life.
  • Since the seal created is strong, permanently flexible and resilient to changing air pressures, it minimizes the possibility of delamination when air pressure changes are experienced.
  • High coverage rates and attractive pricing make this very economical to use.

Recommended Uses

Chil-Fil™ CP-140 duct sealant seals all holes, gaps and joints of aluminum, galvanized steel and stainless steel ductwork (subject to high, medium and low pressure air movement) commonly found in all air conditioning systems and associated equipment.

Application
  • All ductwork surfaces to which Chil-Fil™ CP-140 duct sealant is applied must be clean, dry and free of oil, grease or other foreign substances prior to application.
  • Do not attempt to thin this product. Close container when not in use. Keep away from heat, flame, sparks and other sources of ignition.
  • Do not inhale vapors. Read the safety data sheet on this product thoroughly prior to application.
  • It is easily applied by brush, trowel or caulking gun (extrusion).
  • It may be applied to separate sections of ductwork, which are joined together at a later period of time, or it may also be applied into all joints, gaps and holes of the duct system after assembly.
  • For either type of assembly, all screws must be coated and sealed.
  • For outdoor applications, select Chil-Flex™ CP-146 or top-coat CP-140 with a UV resistant finish.
Cleaning Information
  • Mineral spirits (Flammable)
  • Chlorinated Solvent (Non-flammable)
Handling Conditions
  • Do not thin. Stir well, but do not use sticks or boards which would splinter or otherwise contaminate the product.
  • Apply only to clean, dry, oil-free surfaces. Keep container closed when not in use.
Preparation and Application Information

Brush:

  • On spiral duct, apply a thick coat of CP-140 to the male end of the coupling prior to slipping the straight run of spiral duct over it.
  • Brush excess CP-140 over the exterior of the joint and over the heads of all metal screws after they are in place and the joint is mechanically fastened.
  • On the flanges of rectangular ducts, both flange faces should receive a coat of CP-140 before joining with the flange gasket.
  • Join and bond while sealant is still wet (0 – 3 minutes).
  • If the material should skin on the surface after application, this may be broken by a slight twisting action of the metal duct or a fresh application over the first coat.

Power Extrusion:

  • CHIL-FILTM CP-140 duct sealant may be applied using a wide variety of power (pressure) extrusion equipment suitable for use with solvent-based sealants.

Clean Up:

  • Use a solvent such as chlorinated solvent (non-flammable) or mineral spirits (flammable) for cleaning tools and equipment.
