Material Preparation
- Do not thin. Stir well, but do not use sticks or boards, which would splinter or otherwise contaminate the product.
- Apply only to clean, dry, oil-free surfaces. Keep container closed when not in use.
Application
- Condition of the Surface to Be Coated : Remove any dust from the surfaces to be bonded. The surface to be coated should be free of all oil, grease, loose scale and foreign matter and shall be dry and free from frost.
- To both surfaces of insulation, apply a coat of Fibrous Adhesive CP-97 by brush or trowel at a coverage of 2.5 – 3.0 gal./100 sq. ft. (1.0 – 1.2 l/m2 ).
- Allow an open time of 0 – 5 minutes to develop full tack.
- Place the adhered surfaces together, applying pressure to ensure complete and uniform contact.
- Use clean paintbrushes for brush application and a clean, steel trowel for trowel application.
Clean Up
- Clean brushes and equipment with warm, soapy water.
- Recommended Applications
-
- Fibrous Adhesive CP-97 is used to bond dense thermal insulations such as calcium silicate and expanded perlite to itself and to non-porous surfaces.
- Primed or painted metal surfaces should be tested for compatibility with Fibrous Adhesive CP-97 prior to use.
- It will also effectively adhere other ‘hard to hold’ materials.
- Because of its sodium silicate base, this product is not recommended for use with glass fiber or other alkali sensitive insulations.
- Fibrous Adhesive CP-97 is normally applied by trowel or brush.
- After coating the insulation, bond the adjacent surfaces of the insulation together while the adhesive is still wet.
- The insulation should be firmly embedded into the adhesive immediately or up to five minutes after the application of the adhesive, making sure there is complete contact.
- It is also recommended that the adhesive be applied in 100% coverage to ensure maximum bonding.
