- 150 to 200 sq. ft./gal. per surface (3.7 - 4.9 m2/l)
- 0.011 in. to 0.008 in. (0.28 - 0.20 mm) wet film thickness
- Full Coverage: Applying to both surfaces will yield 75 - 100 sq. ft. bonded surface area per gallon
- As a Lap Adhesive: 450 - 600 linear ft. (137 - 183 m) of lap per gallon (assuming 2 in. (5 cm) wide band of adhesive at lap)
- Limitations
-
- Store above 70°F at least 24 hours before use.
- Make certain this product is completely dry and the area free from solvent odor if food is involved.
- Always test plastic materials and painted surfaces for compatibility when using a solvent-based product.
- Do not use with flexible PVC.
- Preparation and Application Information
-
Material Preparation
- Do not thin. Stir well, but do not use sticks or boards which would splinter or otherwise contaminate the product. Apply only to clean, dry surfaces that are free from dust, dirt and oil. Keep container closed when not in use.
Application
- Lap and Tape Sealing:
- Use clean paintbrush of good quality. Apply a liberal, uniform coat of DRION® CONTACT CEMENT at 150 - 200 sq. ft./gal. (3.7 - 4.9 m2/l) to both mating surfaces to be bonded and allow to dry to the touch. Under normal conditions, this requires 5 minutes.
- If desired, the coated surfaces may be bonded up to 1 hour after application. Using firm hand pressure, adhere jacket flap and smooth entire length of seam to assure intimate contact.
- Alternate Application Method:
- Apply a liberal brush coat at 75 - 100 sq. ft./gal. (1.8 - 2.5 m2/l) to the underside of the lap only. Then, close lap to transfer the adhesive to the mating surface and reopen for normal open time required for solvent evaporation before making the final bond. Seal the lap with firm pressure to assure complete contact.
Clean Up
- Use solvents such as chlorinated solvents (non-flammable) or xylene (flammable) for cleaning brushes and equipment.

- Product Highlights
-
- Drion® Contact Cement is ideal for bonding the laps and seams of polyester secondary vapor barriers on cryogenic insulation systems. It maintains a strong bond between layers of polyester film even at temperatures as low as -320°F.
- Drion® Contact Cement must be applied to both surfaces, allowed to dry and then bonded with moderate uniform pressure. Gives strong immediate bond strength and allows bonding up to 1 hour after application. At temperatures below 50°F, drying time will be extended.
